The sardaukar, the army of the emperor in the Dune novels. I'm a fan of Dune and I love those guys (they're like Stormtroopers who can shoot... how amazing is that!) A part of my soul died when I saw what they looked like in the Sci-fi Channel mini-serie. Purple dudes wearing giant berets...

It's pretty sketchy but at least, there are no giant berets to be seen! Hope you like, even if you never read Dune :)

Like others have said both '84 movie and Sci-fi Channel mini-series went way off with the Sardaukar costumes...but I believe the mini-series was going for some kind of noveau-Renaissance look as opposed to elite, hard-core troopers. Of course, I have my own picture in my head from the novels, but I like your interpretation - nicely done!

Funny thing is, I don't see them this way either. I did it that way back then for fun, but I always pictured the sardaukars looking more like Napoleonian Dragoons.

Ah, yes. I read the series years ago. One of my favorite series. I especially like the Heretics of Dune series, which featured Duncan Idaho thousands of years after the death of The God Emporer. Needless to say, Idaho had been cloned many thousands of times by the Sisters. Did you have a chance to read those sequels? They are so intense. They make the fist four books feel tame by comparison. Sex, Spice and Rock-and-Roll to the max!

Excellent illustration. Faving and Watching. :~}

Yup I read them! The whole Dune series by Frank Herbert is excellent. The ending they wrote a couple of years ago was such a let down however :(

And thanks for the Fav and watch :)

I skipped the books by Herbert's son. I heard that they were far inferior to those written by Frank Herbert. Your assessment is by no means unique among Dune cycle devotees. My pleasure, concerning your latter comment.

ACtually, they had epic costumes in that serie - it was agood point of it, showing how Duneverse is a cultural mishmash...

Freemen are arabs, the Padishah is a PERSIAN title, Harkonen is based ona finnish name...

I always picture them as very sharp suited soldiers.... almost like the Nazi SS. But not in black, in blue, similar to the blue colour worn by Irulan.

I like your take on them though... much better than those guys who look a little like the UN troops!

Not scary

I don't remember why I drew them like this back then. I think I always imagined them in uniform resembling Dragoon cavalry. I may have been in a more sci-fi mood at the time :)

Sardaukar have always been made to look boring somehow. Or when not boring, they've been made to look silly.
