Three Stories by zazB Three Stories by zazB
Short description: These are concept images for various projects I have, a bit like I did a while ago. zazb.deviantart.com/art/Just-f…

Long description:  While working on previous projects, I noticed I was going nowhere mostly because I started with the characters’ looks instead of the story. I tried working the other way around and came up with these three projects. Names and visuals are not set in stone; they could very well change once I start working seriously on a story. If one of them appeals to you more than the others, feel free to let me know.

-The Firelance: Since the fall of their greatest warrior, none of the weasel kind can join the ranks of the Dragons knights. Unless, of course, one manages to bring back a true firelance from the lost lands. (It’s the same story as these: zazb.deviantart.com/art/Dragon… zazb.deviantart.com/art/Weasel… zazb.deviantart.com/art/Badger… )

-Trespasser: Dryad, an ancient cyborg and Kaa, a young scavenger ship pilot, have to work together to escape from inside a giant space faring machine.

-A Spell and a Spear:  To save the last remnants of her people, a sorceress is tasked with slaying the Sun God. Not an easy task when your only ally is an old and decrepit black knight.

Thank you! :)
Sadly I won't be working on this one for a bit. I'm doing a short comic with another character and then it will be either other short stories or taking on Trespasser.

The Firelance definitely has potential.  Certainly it looks like it would very much appeal to fans of Redwall or the awesome Mouse Guard comics.

I chose a short time ago to go with Trespasser, but I still continue to draw weasels and badger in armor because it's a ton of fun. Like this one here, if you are interested zazb.tumblr.com/post/991812889…

All 3 look awesome. I have a hard time to choose between "The Firelance" (georgous design of weasel lancer) and "Trespasser" (I'm a sucker of space opera). Right now I'm after third viewing of Guardians of Galaxy, so I'll probably go with "Trespasser", but any other day it might have been "The Firelance"...

I love all three of these stories ideas! They are all unique in concept but your style pulls them all together nicely as a unit. It may be a long journey to completion but I sincerely hope to hear more from these in the future, no matter the wait :)

Eee, i've had that problem before too! Characters are the most fun to create and therefore I can get stuck creating them and never having enough stories to go around. They just kind of seem to pop up.

I wonder if you have chosen to go through with any of these yet? I'm just randomly browsing around, as you can see.

If so, i think i'd lean toward wanting to read the second and third ideas, if only because, like other people have said, they both already feature these interesting and dynamic character duos that will drive the action along. Maybe, if you need to practice sci-fi stuff, the sci-fi idea would be better?? I think either of them would be great! & yay writing and drawing! & general yay because cool stuff!

Really like the idea behind this - I tend to kind of dig myself into a hole when i start projects too, but I've got a few good ideas, maybe it'd help to try something like this.  I'm biased toward Firelance because I'm super crazy about all of your anthropomorphic warriors.

You are more a fan of fantasy than sci-fi? Or it's the characters that interest you the most?

I'm not a fan of sci-fi; but the characters and the description of the story are what interest me most, specially because she looks like a serious and powerful character and I'm interested in how the  old and decrepit black knight is going to contribute to the story. I think it may be deeper than the others because of the process they'll have to get through to actually be ready in every way to face the sun god.
I love stories that involve journeys...and talking animals, which is why I'm also interested in "The firelance" (:

This might be a strange question, but when writing story ideas do you tend to focus on the two travelers plot? I only ask because I have three stories (two on my deviant), and I keep making a cast of 5 or more.

I do, but it's a personal preference thing. I'm also not a very good writer so, less characters means that it's easier to keep track of their story arcs.

I understand that. When I create the group/party, I make 1-3 main character story arcs with everyone else taking supporting roles or rivals.

Do you have any completed or unfinished stories written? I'd like to read them if that's ok?

No, sorry. The story is always the point the project makes it or break and since I have no webcomic out yet... none of the stories made it. I have hopes for one of those three! (Because I never got that far before) :)

BTW, I like the Firelance. It's rare to see anthropomorphic fantasy now a days. Your work reminds me of Redwall and The Secret of Nimh.

I've been struggling the same way (paying to much attention to the looks and design instead of building the story). Best luck in these beautiful projects.

Mya faqvorites are "Trespasser" and "A Spell and a spear".
I love sci-fi, and I love fantasy, plus the black knight thing is a refreshing take on the classic quest.

I like Firelance because weasels and pine martens in armor really does it for me, and man do you draw them well, but I'm not drawn to it other than that. Epic quests in Fantasy have been done a lot, so you really need to do well to make it stand out.

Ancient cyborg would of course be great but the art didn't grab me.

Which leaves a Spell and a Spear, which I love for several reasons. I love stories about wizards who aren't just all powerful. She looks like she has some chops, but also like she's seen a fair amount of trouble. When I first read the title, it struck me as though all she had was the spear, and the black knight was the "spell", as in a golem or some animated armor or something she cast. I thought that was pretty cool! Having only one arm makes it even better, like they've been traveling a while and he's breaking down. I kind of ignored the "last remnants of her people" bit and didn't picture killing the Sun God as the motivation for the entire story, just a first thing (maybe first arc) she's going to do before doing a bunch of other awesome things (like Hercules). I'm interested in finding out what kind of magic she does. I guess on reflection it makes me wonder what somebody like Gandalf would do if there wasn't the world to save and that's really exciting.

I would be happy to see any of them, but there are lots of things I'm curious about with A Spell and a Spear. Well done!

Tresspasser immediately caught my attention as I'm a huge sci-fi buff and I loved the imagery before I read your story summary. I then was especially keen to see and read more. I love the epic scale of space opera's and the relationship between the cyborg and pilot is one I would enjoy exploring. Can't wait to see more.

Very glad you like it! It was exactly what I was wanting to do; the sense of wonder and exploration and the relation between two completely different characters.

I'm definitely intrigued by the 2nd and 3rd stories mainly because I like it when there is a duo pairing for the main characters, especially when one is a female!

I think if I had to choose one, I'd say "A Spell and Spear" draws me in the most because of the whole D&D type of fantasy setting. I'm interested to see which one you choose to develop further. :)

I need to try doing this for my own stories.

Small unimportant detail, if you pay attention to the names, you can see that in Trespasser, both characters are female :)
As for the fantasy setting I was not sure how people would react to it, because it's pretty common. It's common, but it's fun... so we'll see :D

If you have stories of your own, I say definitively try it! It's fun and it helped me narrow down some designs. It's also a very good sign if you can narrow down your story to one or two sentences.

Hehe, thanks for the little tip on narrowing down stories. :)

And oh, seeing that Trespasser has TWO leading ladies definitely makes it a front runner for me now. Not enough ladies being main characters these days and for some reason I always enjoy seeing these females that are big, tough, and able to kick some butt! As far as fantasy themed stuff goes, I think it's okay for it to be a commonly used setting as long as you put your own little spin on it, which, from your character designs, looks like you shouldn't have too much of a problem doing. :D

your art is very reminiscent of the style of whomever did hellboy...

which is to say its amazing...

if I had to go with one I'd go with tresspasser since I'm done on questing...

I hear you about the questing, I think it's the weak point of the two fantasy ideas.

yeah I feel like the "searching for a way out" can really lend itself to the part of comics that I love which is allegorical self reflection on the shared experience of existing in a universe to awesome (used in the classical sense) to fully grasp.
