Transformers - Escape from Chicago by zazB Transformers - Escape from Chicago by zazB

Short story; it’s a Transformers fan art! Drawn and inked be me and colored by Eve eve-bolt.deviantart.com/

Long story; I love the concept of the Transformers, even if I know it’s a franchise that exists mostly to sell toys. When the live-action movies were made I was excited because in my opinion the robots and the transformations looked amazing. Then I saw them and I was not so excited anymore. At the time I thought; if only they could get rid of those humans and focus on the robots punching each other! I now believe I was wrong and the thing to do would be to get rid of those caricature characters and focus on the relation between said robots and humans with both of them being more developed.

My inner 14 years old then said to me: Think you can do better, you overgrown kid? I had no idea if I could, but I wanted to try. So this is what I came up with: the story of a young woman escaping from the devastated Chicago of the last movie to get back to her family. What she doesn’t know is that her motorcycle is not what it appears to be anymore.

I did this image and it was a great deal of fun, researching into motorcycling, bike designs and actually drawing it. I don’t know if I can make it into something more than just an illustration, mostly because I don’t even know where I stand on the whole fan art/fan fiction thing.

So there, if you have any opinion on that, feel free to leave a comment! Even if it’s only to discuss how challenging it is to draw and ink wheels in perspective :)

I'm not the biggest transformer fan, because of the way they handle the stories and whatnot.
But man, this design and story idea are so neat- the robot-human relationship thing is really interesting.

I probably won't do this comic but those themes will be present in my big project, Trespasser :)

It's interesting that her motorcycle becomes a Decepticon.  I wonder what kind of relationship they would have, as Decepticons are usually pretty antagonistic towards or at least dismissive of humans.  There are multiple ways to handle this, depending on the Decepticon's personality.

Yes, I thought it would be a good thing to explore. He's a small decepticon so he needs to stay hidden and passing for a real motorcycle and having a real human driver would have helped him towards that goal. I would have set the whole thing in the same universe as the movies, with the Decepticons having lost everyone, so his goal would have been survival.

As a long-time Transformers fan, I love and approve of your ideas and what you have done with it!

The design of your 'Con here is really nice; their look really looks like something that would plausibly become a motorcycle without breaking the mass shifting rule (Arcee from Transformers Prime, I love ya but really your alt mode should only turn into your leg or something).

Focusing on the deeper, emotional bonds between human and 'bot is something I love to see more of. Indeed, 'till all are one'.

Designing proper transformers is a lot of hard work!
I'm with you on Arcee, the design is awesome but I wonder where does she hide all those parts in motorcycle mode.

It's like CGhub, but people post less metal bikinis and robot orcs, and more of OTHER things. Better system for promoting a wider variety of art, and it's great connecting with artists there because most of them are pros.

You're my favorite artist on EARTH. You just get it all right, relaxed and rigid, perfectly confident line weights, colors that are simple and to the point without being bleak. Reminds me a mix of Mignola and Tank Girl and Disney all bottle up. So good... finally had to say something. Been a quiet stalker for a long while now. Keep it up, you're ALWAYS inspiring.

Not yet. I'm still trying to decide which project I will start working on among the four I have. Choosing name for characters is hard for me so it comes later in the development.

I would like to foremost say that I agree that the relation between transformers and humans is important, otherwise you might as well not have the humans at all. I the illustration's premise is appealing and if you decide not to make a fan comic strip or so,thing full blown like that, I'd be disapointed if you didn't at least make post card like entries of her journey home. Still it's a rockin' pic.

This is an excellently well crafted piece and the story behind it is great!  :+fav:  As both a fan of Transformers and speculative fiction in general, I'd love to read/see/hear more from this concept if you ever choose to develop it further.

This image alone is already enough to tell a story and development of the 2 main characters. Good job! Hopefully the next movie will be something like this!

(To be fair and honest, I still love and respect the first TF movie. After all, that movie was the one that introduced me to TF, and of course, I have explored the past versions of it as well. The other movies just wasn't really good. I have watched the 4th movie and while it isn't great, it wasn't as bad as I expected.)

I'm pretty sure the movies will not look like this as long as they are directed by Michael Bay. The girl is not wearing short shorts ;)
I still like the first movie too, mostly for the robots. The scenes with Blackout and Barricade are great and Optimus was not as murderous as in the sequels.

I knew many fans will not be very happy with him for making Optimus more murderous as the movies progressed. I'm sure Peter Cullen would be less approving of it as well, but it's show biz so not much can be done sometimes.

While I do respect what Mr Bay has done for the franchise, I feel that it will be best for another director to take over it. And if the director ever ask what direction it can take, I will suggest a mix of TF Prime and IDW Transformers. Good action and good stories.

I love both the concept and the execution. The features of the transformed bike remain recognizeably Transformer but at the same time evoke a certain alien design sensibility that I like a lot.

ohohoho. i smell a sexy fanfic in the making.  girl on the road, with a Decepticon in hiding. theyre both running away from everyone, trying to find a place in the world. then they found...each other.

it will get a huge following in Fanfic circles. it will get book offer, and character names will have to be change to avoid copyright infringement , and then a movie will be made about it: Fifty Shades of Metal, rated NC17, coming this fall

You saw through my deception! All I ever wanted to do was some hot skin on metal action! And some quick cash. I can't wait to show the world where that tailpipe goes in his robot form and what he does with it.
I'm sad I didn't think of that title first though ;)

If you ever want to check some transformers stuff, I recommend Transformers animated, it was a good and fun cartoon series.

What's more interesting is it's NOT an autobot!

Thank you! To be fair with the writers tough, I have no producer or director with a weird sense of humor breathing down my neck.

I wanted to have a different view point on the robot conflict than what we usually have. It seemed to me that a decepticon main character would be interesting. Especially if he has to be with a human to stay alive.

True, true. They did make up for it with special effects at least. Though the movies seemed to focus on the robots fighting each other or on the humans and their problems, rather then them working together to help solve each others problems.

And that's what is interesting, as a Decepticon it's likely not going to be very nice but since it would likely be on the run from the human military, Autobots and it's fellow Decepticon and thus forced to work with and protect the squishy human. Opens up a lot of potential character development between the two.
